Promoting localisation, empowering start-ups, setting-up medtech research and authentication centres to approve and certify standardised medical devices in addition to completely eliminating counterfeiting from the supply chain are the important strategies that needs to be adopted to become an independent producer of medical devices and technology, informed experts from the leading medical healthcare domain participating in the first hybrid edition of MedicalTech Innovation Forum.

Messe Frankfurt India in collaboration with Andhra Pradesh Medtech Zone (AMTZ) hosted the forum were healthcare leaders deliberated upon the optimum infrastructure, regulatory framework and innovation in the Indian medical devices industry.

Talking about the recent changes that can be witnessed in the medical devices sector, Dr Uma Nambiar, Managing Director, Zeeden Life Sciences and Chairperson, Digital Health India Association (DHIA), said, “For various reasons we have not yet reached where we should because the big companies are traditionally centred in the west, but we have been outsourcing the devices to a lot of companies. We have seen revolution of sorts in the last two years owing to Government’s focus on ‘Aatmanirbhar Bharat’ and making India self-sufficient in many things related to healthcare, we have seen India transform from an importer of consumables in infectious disease
