The one-of-its-kind Neurosciences Centre at Cytecare Hospitals will offer services ranging from stroke management, pediatric neuro-oncology and neuro rehabilitation to cerebrovascular surgery, stereotactic radiosurgery and comprehensive care for spine tumours as well as brain tumours.
According to a recent study published in The Lancet Global Health, the contribution of non-communicable and injury-related neurological disorders to the total disease burden in India has more than doubled between 1990 and 2019. There is an urgent need for medical centres that specialise in the diagnosis and treatment of patients with injury to, or diseases of the central and peripheral nervous system.
Commenting on the significance of the Neurosciences Centre, Suresh Ramu, Co-Founder and CEO, Cytecare Hospitals, said, “In order to address the growing burden of neurological disorders in the country, we need to have multi-disciplinary experts under one roof. With our Neurosciences Centre, in collaboration with Brains, our endeavour is to provide patients with easy access to world-class care. Under the able leadership of Dr. Venkatramana NK, I’m confident that we can address the yawning gap that currently prevails in neurological disease management, neurosurgery, rehabilitation and areas of care related to the brain, spinal cord and spinal column as well as peripheral nerves. This is just the beginning; we have a long way to go.”
Dr. Venkatramana NK, Head of Neurosciences Centre, Cytecare Hospitals, will lead the multidisciplinary team of doctors at the Neurosciences Centre. Counted among the first to establish a brain tumour bank as well as introduce cerebral microdialysis in India, the veteran neurosurgeon has performed over 30,000 surgeries in his career spanning three decades.
Speaking at the launch, Dr. Ferzaan Engineer, Co-Founder and Chairman, Cytecare Hospitals said, ” The number of people suffering from neurological disorders in our country is increasing at an alarming rate. This calls for more neuroscience centers with state-of-the-art facilities and deep clinical knowledge. It is also vital for the healthcare systems in India to step up and introduce advanced technologies and facilities in this field. I am glad that Cytecare is creating a world class neuroscience center in the city that can treat patients with nerve and spine disabilities with utmost precision and care. “
