Molbio launches Truenat Scrub T test for Scrub Typhus, Health News, ET HealthWorld

India: Molbio Diagnostics received Drug Controller General of India (DCGI) nod for its Truenat Scrub T test for detecting Scrub Typhus, an infectious disease that can spread to humans through the bite of an infected chigger (larval mites).

Truenat by Molbio is a point of care Real-Time PCR platform that had earlier been approved to detect numerous infectious diseases like COVID-19, Tuberculosis, H1N1, Dengue, Hepatitis amongst others. Real-Time PCR can help is early stage detection of the disease which can then be controlled effectively to reduce the mortality rate which can even cross 30 percent in some cases.

Scrub Typhus affects approximately one million people in India every year. As per the PLOS report July 2021, the highest densities of cases were from Tamil Nadu (37.6% of cases), Himachal Pradesh (11 percent), Karnataka (8.8 percent), and Uttrakhand (8.5 percent).

Elucidating on the role Truenat can play in early and accurate detection of the disease, Sriram Natarajan, Founder-Director and CEO of Molbio Diagnostics said, “We have addressed the critical need for reliable technologies that can enable early and accurate diagnosis by making molecular testing accessible & affordable. We are very happy that our Truenat test for Scrub Typhus has now been approved by DCGI. This will help in fighting against the disease and prevent unnecessary morbidity and mortality. “
