QCI launch award to promote lab quality and performance improvement in the country, Health News, ET HealthWorld

Delhi, India: Country’s first-of-its- kind Laboratory Excellence Award has been instituted by Quality Council of India (QCI) to promote laboratory quality and performance improvement in the country. To ensure that laboratories provide high precision testing and calibration services which are in line with the prevalent national or international quality systems legislations, it was launched virtually amidst eminent dignitaries from government and industry.

Emphasizing on the need to launch a Laboratory Excellence Award, Adil Zainulbhai, Chairman, QCI, said, “The goal of this award is to locate India’s best labs and to demonstrate to the rest of the world that our labs have the highest standards in the world”.

Currently operational laboratories pertaining to testing, calibration and medical including their proficiency testing providers and reference material producers located in India will be contenders for this excellence award. The assessment will be done on various parameters including application document evaluation, physical, virtual presentation, site Assessment and verification, reference check and Jury evaluation.

The Laboratory Excellence Award is named after Prof. S.K. Joshi who was a luminary in the field of Science and Academia. His significant contribution in improving scientific research in India while serving as President-INSA, DG-CSIR, Director-NPL and Chairman-NABL is well recognized all around the world. Prof. Joshi has prestigious Padma Bhushan, Padma Shri, CV Raman Medal of INSA amongst several other awards to his name.

Many other dignitaries present at the event expressed their happiness on the launch of an award in honour of Prof. SK Joshi and hoped that this award will inspire many labs in the country to improve their quality to international standards and offer best services.
