A patient admitted to a civic-run hospital was bitten by a rat near his eye.
Reacting to the incident, Shelar also asked who’s eating into BMC’s Rs 1206 crore health budget.
“Mumbaikars have to take treatment beside dead body at Sion Hospital. In Rajawadi ICU, a patient gets bitten by a rat. Then who is eating into Rs 1,206 crore health budget of the BMC which has Rs 80,000 crore deposits,” asked Shelar.
Who is gnawing at the coffers, Shelar asked, saying it is an extremely unfortunate and annoying incident.
Hitting out at the Shiv Sena-ruled BMC, BJP Member of Parliament from Mumbai North East Manoj Kotak said, “Asia’s richest civic body is incapable of even keeping a hygienic ICU. What are you capable of then?”
Mumbai mayor Kishori Pednekar has ordered a probe into the incident after meeting the patient and termed the issue as serious.
“Such an incident should not have happened. The injuries of the patient are superficial, still, they could have been avoided. There is no threat to the eye, but injuries are being treated at our hospital,” said Dr Vidya Thakur, dean, Rajawadi Hospital.
